Deferred Prosecution
The Deferred Prosecution program monitors compliance with the conditions imposed by a deferred prosecution order, which allows an offender diagnosed with alcohol addiction and who fully accepts the need for treatment to undergo a two year treatment program. Upon successful completion of the program, the charge is dismissed. Although the program is used primarily for DWI cases, it may also be applied for other specified offenses and for offenders with drug addiction and mental health problems. Recent legal changes limit an offender to one deferred prosecution in a lifetime. Currently there are approximately 1000 active deferred prosecution cases in Clark County.

DUI, Deferred Prosecution, Court Mandated, Employer and Self-Referred
The beginnings of intensive outpatient treatment for the addictions are closely linked with the explosive growth in the early 1980s of cocaine addiction. The federal, state and county governments have been losing the war on drugs and have shifted its policy focus away from punishment and toward prevention and treatment. Intensive outpatient treatment is viewed as an innovative, measurably effective, and cost-efficient alternative for chemically dependent individuals.
IOP is 3 days per week for 8 weeks (Meets requirements for Deferred Prosecution and DOL).
Outpatient Programs
These programs, similar to the Intensive Outpatient Program, are designed to provide the same services in a less intensive manner over a longer period of time. Patients are scheduled for 1 or 2 hour sessions, one to two sessions per week. Group topics include recovery skills and relapse prevention. Family members and significant others can participate in a family program.
12-26 weeks. Designed to be flexible to meet individual needs.
Treatment Can Work For You
The good news is that treatment is available and it works! Studies by the National Institute on Drug Abuse show that 40 to 50 percent of those entering treatment programs are able to remain drug free for three to five years; the study also shows that another 30 percent significantly reduced their use of drugs and alcohol.
There is no "one-size-fits-all" approach to treating addictions. Treatment depends on individual needs and circumstances and the drug involved. The goal of chemical dependency treatment is to help individuals make changes in their lives that will replace dependency on drugs for coping. In turn, their lives are richer and more constructive. Treatment involves learning to make changes in thinking and behaving.
One and Two Year Programs
8 Hours Education
The State of Washington Department of Licensing approves the following Adult (over 18 years of age) Alcohol/Drug Information School Programs (A/DIS). The A/DIS program does not in any way constitute a treatment program. These programs are designed to be an educational intervention and are best suited for those who may meet Level .05 of American Society of Addiction Medicine's Patient Placement Criteria (ASAM) or those in need of prevention education.
One year Batterer's Intervention
Batterer intervention programs are a way to hold batterers accountable for their violence as an alternative to incarceration. Initial studies suggested that these programs reduced abusive behavior. In 21 of 24 controlled studies, re-offense rates were lower among program participants than among the control group (non-treated).
Anger Management Therapy (12 - 26 Week Education)
The difference between Batterer's Intervention and Anger Management is: Anger is viewed as the primary problem versus a pattern of abuse and control as the Batterer's primary problem. Primary focus of Anger Management is on managing the emotions. Abuse is seen as due to a loss of control for the angry client in contrast to a taking of control for the batterer. Intervention for Anger Management is short term (12-26 weeks).
